How would I translate this japanese word to english?

animeaddict asked:

I’ve tried online dictionaries, but I’m not sure if it’s Hiragana, katagana, or romanji. I don’t even know what those are.

The word is:

リードオンリーメンバー

I know it means lurker, but I can’t read it in the symbols.

How would I read it in english text?

Its in Katakana. Katakana is used for english (or other foriegn words) when written in Japanese. E.g words like chocolate and camera are taken from the english. These would be written in katakana. BTW romaji is a japanese word or phrase written in english letters. Its used to show how a japanese word would be pronounced in english.

In Romaji it is : Riidoonrimenba.

Literally translated, it actually says ‘read-only member’…

rule of thumb: hiraganas have curvy lines; katagana have straight edges; romaji are english letters.

    リードオンリーメンバー

    li - do o n li - me n ba -
    (read) (only) (menber)

    good luck
