Where can I find a good English-Hindi travel dictionary- with pronunciation?
shelbybug123 asked:
I am going on a trip to Delhi, India soon,
and a little phrasebook would be lovely.
I’ve looked online and found phrases, but the thing is, none of the sites have pronunciation marks.
And I’ve no idea how they expect me to understand the word completely based solely on how its spelled.

Well, I can help you out with that, not sure where to find a book on it. Most people in India are pretty decent in English though. Some key phrases:
“Namaste.” (”Hello”)
Pronunciation: Nu-mus-thay
“Mai America se hoon.” (”I’m from America.”)
Pronunciation: Ma (like in “man”) America say hoo
“Mai Hindi nahi samaj atti.” (”I don’t understand Hindi.”)
Pronunciation: Ma Hindi nay-hee su-muj ah-thee
“Kither/kahaan hai ____?” (”Where is ___?”)
Pronunciation: Kither/kaha ha (like in “hat”)
I would go out and buy the Lonely Planet Guide to Hindi-Urdu. I have found it an excellent resource even after 4 years of studying the language.
